“1976 Grey Cup highlights Ottawa Rough Riders vs. Saskatchewan Roughriders”

From CBC Sports

Battle of the Roughriders! You would have to be familiar with the CFL to get that joke, but one reason why the CFL doesn’t get as much respect in America as perhaps it should it because they did at least at one point have multiple clubs with the same nickname.

But this was a very good Grey Cup game, 23-20 the Red Blacks as the Ottawa CFL club is called now beat the Roughriders. Ottawa was able to move the ball well and score points against perhaps the best defense in the CFL in 1976 the Roughriders that only gave up about fifteen points a game. And had the best pass defense in the CFL. They also scored 428 points so they had a very good balanced team.

The Red Blacks were able to move the ball with their balanced offense and shut out the Roughriders in the fourth quarter.

This is what game 6 of this World Series was all about: the Phillies playing for their season and just for the opportunity to get to game 7 to have another opportunity to win the 1993 World Series. The Blues Jays, playing to defend their 1993 MLB World Series Championship. And win this World Series so they don’t have to play a game 7 and risk losing this World Series. And that is what made this game so great. Because the Phillies had to win it and did their best to do so.

From CFL Video

A good touchdown drive by the Tiger Cats that was led by QB Tom Clement. This game featured two CFL QB’s that had NFL arms, meaning they were strong and accurate enough to play in the NFL. Tom Clement did get a look by the NFL in the 1970s. And of course Warren Moon started his pro football career with the Edmonton Eskimos, before the Houston Oilers picked him up in the NFL in 1984.

From CFL Video

ESPN is how I got introduced to the CFL in the late 1980s when my family finally got cable. And I saw a few CFL games in the summers during those years. And when the CFL expanded in America in the mid 1990s, I got to watch more CFL games as well.

I like the league and the style of play, I just wish they knew how to promote their league and sell their game a lot better, especially to America.

Perhaps the two worst teams in the CFL playing each other in 1994. The Shreveport Pirates were 3-15 and played like the expansion team that they were. And the Rough Riders were 4-14, but still managed to make the CFL Playoffs, because 4-5 teams in the Eastern Division automatically made the playoffs that year. You don’t have to be good or even be winners to make the CFL Playoffs.

“CFL 1994 LAS VEGAS POSSE AT OTTAWA ROUGHRIDERS”

From CFL Video

Anthony Calvillo playing pro football for an American team. Not sure why he never got more consideration from the NFL and from NFL teams, because he had great size and was a big, strong, mobile QB, who also had a very strong and accurate throwing arm.

The only American team that Calvillo plays for is an American team that was part of the CFL expansion in America in the Las Vegas Posse. That only played two seasons in 1994 and 95.

The Ottawa Rough Riders made CFL Playoffs in 1994, but only because 4-5 teams from each division qualified and were well under 500. Hard to miss the CFL Playoffs when 3-4 or 3-5 teams in each division makes the playoffs. But they were having a down year in 1994.

The Posse were CFL expansion franchise that got their players by drafting castoffs from the CFL and American players that didn’t make the NFL and were looking to simply continue their pro football careers.
