Take Dyan Cannon out of Honeysuckle Rose and I have absolutely no interest in this movie. And maybe that’s just because I’m not a fan of country music or rural culture in general, except of course for country girls and cowgirls. I do like them for obvious reasons. Dyan is an example of a woman who is so attractive and so much fun to look at and be around, that she can bring guys at least to the movie or to watch the movie all by herself. She’s so funny, so adorable, gorgeous at any age in her life and still baby-face adorable as well and sexy. Talking about a woman in Dyan Cannon her late seventies was still wearing skinny denim jeans in boots, as if she was half her age or stealing from her granddaughter’s wardrobe or something.

There are a few funny scenes in like early in the movie where it’s Willie Nelson’s first night back from his last road trip and they’re in the kitchen together with their son about to have desert and Dyan is about to serve whatever they’re eating and Willie takes some of it and rubs it on Dyan’s blouse and the kid starts laughing and Willie throws some of the stuff on him and then Dyan gets into the act and rubs whatever they’re supposed to be eating on both Willie and the kid and it turns into a food fight.

Another scene where Willie is just getting back and they’re checking each other out in their skin-tight jeans and saying things like those pants are really tight, but you fit so well into them. And they’re on the bed together as this is going on and start wrestling. Another scene where Dyan is doing sit-ups in their living room again in her skin-tight jeans and western boots. There cute funny moments like that, but a lot of this movie is really about Willie having an affair with the new female backup singer ( played by Amy Irving ) in his band a woman perhaps young enough to be Dyan’s daughter, but the new girl is not as attractive as his wife in the movie. Not as sexy, not as pretty, not as cute even, just 15-20 years younger than Dyan Cannon. Perhaps Willie has some other connection with her that wasn’t sexual.

There moments like that which is just laid out that give the movie maybe 40 solid minutes of time. Along with Willie and Dyan singing together in the movie. They both have great voices and chemistry in the movie. But for the most part the only reasons why I’m watching it is to see Dyan Cannon in it. To observe and listen to her. All her adorable facial expressions and her Hollywood Hall of Fame laugh and great body.

Is it just me or did Dyan Cannon seem like she was on laughing gas, or something during this interview? Perhaps she just had a root canal and just came from the dentist or something. Maybe she went to a bad comedy show and took laughing gas there to be nice. So she would laugh at any bad joke that she heard. But that is what you get from Dyan. The adorable baby-face and personality that comes with where she’s always laughing and perhaps has even laughed at funerals before or something. (Now that’s cold) But she laughed at practically everything Dave said there. But this is why she’s great on shows like this, because talking to her is just like talking to a great comedian.

I was a fifteen year old high school freshman who was probably asleep when this interview was shown in 1991. I couldn’t tell you anything about the movie they were talking about even if I wanted to. Which I don’t because I simply don’t know what movie they’re talking about. But the idea that Dyan would have to sell which I’m sure was her beautiful Los Angeles home to make her own movie that only had a three-million-dollar budget, seems surprising to me. She was a Hollywood starlet for twenty-years at this point. Maybe she was going through another divorce where she owed her twenty-year old tennis assistant/beach bum ex-husband a lot of money in alimony, or something. But you would think a great successful Hollywood entertainer could easily finance a project like that.

“There is no initial comedy segment. Johnny first asks Dyan Cannon how she feels about being called sexy. She says it used to bother her, but no longer. She confirms that producer Jerry Wald gave her the name Cannon because he said she reminded him of explosions. She agreed to the change to get a screen test. After the test she was rejected, and told her nose was too flat. She went to a surgeon to have it changed, but he refused. Then she and Johnny talk about how men and women try to change partners in relationships. Johnny Carson, needed to be careful about having people like Hollywood Goddess Dyan Cannon on his show, because she was probably as quick as he was off the cuff with the humor, or at least in the same ballpark. Who didn’t need a script to crack joke and even do monologue.

And as good as Johnny was at poking fun at famous people and he might be the best comedian ever at doing this, he wasn’t exactly flawless. I mean he was basically the male Liz Taylor when it came to married life. Both when it came to his multiple marriages and divorces. He could write a book literally based on his personal experiences in life of what not to do when it came to married life. And Dyan knew these things and knew him very well.

Late night comedic hosts have to draw a line about who they pick fun at when they have guests on. I mean if they have people on who are experts at screwing up, sure! Making fun of them would be easy, especially if they don’t know how to punch back, or even screw that up. But not many people would want to see that.

But if they go after quick-witted people like a Dyan Cannon who knows the host well and has had her issues in life that could be poked fun at like her multiple marriages and divorces, but can give it back as well then they’ll end up taking clean shots on their own show and perhaps even be put on the defensive.

Johnny Carson, whether they were standup comedians, or not and Dyan’s case, more of a comedic actress with a quick off the cuff humor and great ability to improvise, loved funny people. Which is why having Dyan on his show worked so well.

Johnny, also liked intelligent people and intelligent people who were funny. Frank Sinatra comes to mind, Burt Reynolds would be another one and Dyan Cannon would be close to, or at the top of this list. He would mention things to talk about and generally what was going on in Dyan’s life and what she’s interested in and they would simply talk about like two people who knew each other very well. With no script and would do it in a very funny way that would keep the audience interested and laughing. And even have Dyan with her adorable laugh laughing her head off for most of the interview which is what you see here. Dyan Cannon, was the perfect guest for Johnny Carson, because she kept him on his toes and made him think.

I didn’t get much out of this interview, but I can speak about Cary Grant and Dyan Cannon two of my favorite actors, as well as comedians of all-time. I bet they were laughing the whole time during their marriage just because of how off the cuff quick-witted they were and Dyan’s case she still is. In Carry Grant’s case I believe we are talking about the best actor ever and I mean actor as far as men. Perhaps the funniest actor and physical comedian ever as far as his delivery and improvisation. And in Dyan Cannon’s case you’re talking about one of the best actress’s of her generation. People born in the mid and late 1920s and the 1930s. As well as one of the best looking.

Cary and Dyan, were together in the mid and late 1960s. Cary’s career was slowing down and he had time to have a strong relationship with a beautiful sexy women like Dyan Cannon who was going to become a Hollywood Goddess and one of the top actress’s of the 1970s and the 1980s. So I guess that gave Cary an opportunity to show a young beautiful baby-faced adorable actress like Dyan Cannon the ropes of the business so to speak and perhaps finally start a family with a women. Which is what Cary and Dyan did in the mid 1960s. Cary Grant would go on to live another twenty years after getting together with Dyan Cannon, but never regained the stardom that he had in the 1950s.

Dyan Cannon, has had some great roles in some of my favorite movies. The Last of Sheila, which she did in 1972 with another Hollywood Goddess Raquel Welch. Shamus, in 1973 with Burt Reynolds, The Doctors Wives in 1971, Caddyshack 2 from 1988 which is a hell of a lot better than the original Caddyshack from 1980. And she’s a women whose somehow managed to stop aging after she hit 30, or something and still looks incredible today with that gorgeous baby-faced, adorable personality and great sense of humor. Not the great career of a Liz Taylor, or a Lauren Bacall, but she’s had a great career and has made a great impact on Hollywood and perhaps is still the best Los Angeles Lakers fan alive.

The Last of Sheila is a very good movie and very funny, but you take Raquel Welch and Dyan Cannon out of the movie and you have a good movie, but you don’t have the eye-candy that can take a b-movie and make it look like an a-movie, because of the great humor and acting, but the sexuality as well in it.

There are other great scenes in The Last of Sheila, most of them with either Raquel or Dyan in the movie, but the swimsuit edition of the movie with Raquel and Dyan, brings guys into a movie and forces them to watch a soap opera crime story, that most guys at least back in the 1970s wouldn’t be caught dead watching, unless their girlfriend was interested in it, because they would’ve viewed this type of movie as feminine or gay.

Sorry Haterss Canal: Shamus 1973- A Private Eye Gets What’s Coming To Him

To be completely honest with you, I watched Shamus because Dyan Cannon and Burt Reynolds were in it. Two of my favorite actors and one of the best comedic duos you could ever put together. Dyan, is so adorable, as well as sexy, gorgeous and then she’s also a hell of an actress and one of the funniest actress’s who has ever lived. They especially make a great male/female comedy duo. And they were both great in this movie, but they were great together. Not saying the movie wasn’t a good movie. Because it is a very entertaining and good action/comedy. Especially when you consider that Dyan, Burt, and Joe Santos, are the only names in the movie. The only well-known actors who’ve had long successful careers.

Shamus, is about a very good, but perhaps not a very well-known Brooklyn private detective. But someone who is very good at his job who have very good and useful friends and references. Who is hired by a New York crime boss played by Ron Weygand to find out who robbed one his jewelry stores. Shamus McCoy, played by the great Burt Reynolds, perhaps the best action/comedic actor who has ever lived, takes the job, but is suspicious of his new client right away. And digs up dirt on his client to find out what he’s about and who would rob them and why. Another crime group separate from Shamus’s client, somehow finds out quickly that Shamus is working for the man they just robbed. And try to get him off the case, if not put him out of business all together.

Dyan Cannon, plays the sister of one of the people who this group robbed. And Shamus uses her to get to her brother and his connections. That have all of these things that the group has stole and wants to steal more of. Including military surplus equipment. Shamus decides that his new and only wealthy client is no longer worth working for. And ends up taking Alexis, played by Dyan as his new client. Because she wants to know who is trying to hurt her brother. This is a fairly complicated movie and fairly violent movie as well. Where Shamus is not the Devil or the Saint in the movie. And uses a lot of ruthless and abusive tactics to solve the case. Even though he doesn’t have a full-time client in the movie. And is an interesting and funny action/drama. With a lot of humor in it, mostly coming from Burt. Who of course is a master smartass.

Warner Brothers: Caddyshack 2 1988- An Example of a Sequel Being Better Than the Original

I’ve never seen the original  Caddyshack movie in its entirety.  Not because I haven’t wanted to or had the time.  The bits and pieces I have seen have never compelled me to see the whole movie.  Despite an impressive cast, Rodney Dangerfield, Ted Knight, Chevy Chase, and the Murray brothers Bill and Brian, it’s one of the most overrated comedies of all time.

The first Caddyshack, from 1980, is essentially about a bunch of morons, including some successful snobs.  The sequel, from 1988, is about Jack Kartunian (Jackie Mason), a wealthy man who owns an excellent construction company.  He treats his employees well and is loved by everyone with whom he does business.  He can’t get into a fancy, snobby, waspy, Anglo-Saxon country club, because of his ethnic background. He is Jewish and Armenian and has a working class attitude about life.  He is not someone who’s going to be pushed around or denied things by rich snobs.

He decides that if he can’t get into this snobby country club the old fashioned way by applying and being accepted, he’ll do the next best thing and buy it.  His friend Ty (Chevy Chase), just happens to own Bushwood Country Club.  Naturally, that pisses off the snobby leadership and membership of the club and they go to war with Kartunian to get their club back.

This movie has a lot of funny scenes.  Kartunian buys the snobby Bushwood members in an auction and puts them to work at his construction company building a house.  These people are completely unprepared to work there and make complete assholes of themselves, dressed for playing golf.

I can’t end this post without mentioning that Dyan Cannon is also in the movie. She’s fifty years old, at this point, and still a hot, adorable, and sexy babe.  She plays Jack Kartunian’s new love interest at a time when Jack is not getting along with his daughter who wants to be a member of the old Bushwood Club. This is one of the funniest movies of all time and one of the few examples of ordinary Americans beating the snobs and enjoying enjoy the better life, so to speak.

First, with this movie, just to get a little personal: what other reason do you need to watch a movie (especially if you are a guy) than to know that both Raquel Welch and Dyan Cannon are featured at the top of their game (well, Raquel Welch has always been at the top of her game) but these two gorgeous, sexy, goddesses in the same damn movie acting together?

Now, in case you are actually interested in this movie: even with Raquel and Dyan in it, it is still not a great movie, but a very entertaining and funny detective movie played by actors who are playing actors and not detectives. A Hollywood director, James Coburn, gives up his yacht to Hollywood friends and associates in Hollywood who play detective and solve the mystery.

The excellent cast numbers 10 or more. Richard Benjamin, a terrific comedian and very good if not great actor, plays Tom, a film writer, who thinks he knows who killed the woman and gets a lot of it right about who could have done it, who had the access, and so-forth.

Phillip, played by the great James Mason (North by Northwest among other great movies) is reserved throughout the movie but at the end figures it out. Raquel and Dyan are basically just along for the ride and clueless, but, as I said earlier, very welcome additions .

Dyan Cannon would 75-76 at this point and still looks better than women in their sixties, fifties, forties, thirties, twenties even and good looking women as well. I mean she was born during the Great Depression, pre-World War II even and she still has guys, young guys checking her out wherever she goes. And still fills out denim jeans and boots as well or better than women young enough to be her daughter and even half her age.

The woman is not just a goddess who lives in Hollywood because she’s an entertainer, but she’s a true Hollywood Goddess. Who should be in the Hollywood Hall of Fame. ( If there’s such a thing ) A great actress, very funny, still gorgeous and baby-face adorable and has a body that makes guys young enough to her grandson want to check her out. But other than these things, just an ordinary woman. Sorry I brought her up.

Dyan Cannon is one of my favorite sexy babies all time. And not just because she’s baby-face adorable, hot and with a real nice body. Even though all of those things are true, but she’s also very funny especially when she is so cute personally and she can also act.

This scene from The Doctors Wives is a pretty good example of that. These women are all married to big shot doctors who also happen to be workaholics. Who are perhaps more in love with their jobs than their wives.

The men and women are supposed to be playing cards. But Dyan or her character is horny and feels the need or craving for sex. And knows her fellow players are not satisfied with their husbands. And thinks it might be their fault that their husbands don’t spend a lot of time with them. And offers to have sex with all the men to show the women what they’re doing wrong with their men.

A very funny scene with a very funny adorable sexy hot actress, Dyan Cannon.
